Pizza Holidays

Running social media at Slice (the pizza app) for 7 months, taught me how little I actually knew in the world of pizza. I knew I liked to eat it, but I couldn’t tell you the difference between Detroit Style and Chicago Deep Dish, let alone which local shop would be the best place to order from.

It wasn’t long before I learned all the ins and outs, but one of my favorite parts of pizza is all the ‘holidays’ linked to its consumption. We all know when it’s your birthday people will assume there will be a cake involved, but when it comes to these holidays, pizza is a more than just a popular dish on the menu:

The Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is traditionally the second most popular day for pizza orders, and really, what better way to enjoy the game, then to eat some pizza, dip your wings, and enjoy an ice cold cup of your favorite drink?

National Pizza Pie Day

February 9th, is National Pizza Pie Day and what a delicious day that is. It’s really no surprise that #NationalPizzaDay has more than 250k tags on Instagram.

Valentine’s Day

It may come as a surprise to you, but February 14th is a very popular day for pizza orders. Local shops all over the nation even sell heart-shaped pies for the occasion. So whether you celebrate with a loved one, or don’t celebrate at all, pizza seems to be the go-to choice.

National Cheese Pizza Day

September 5th is not quite as well-known as February 9th, but some would argue that there’s nothing quite like a classic cheese slice. Can we just rename it National (Extra) Cheese Pizza Day?

National Pepperoni Pizza Day

On September 20th the nation puts a little (or a lot of) pep in their step with this celebration. If you happen to be in NYC during this time of the year, there is no better place to get spicy ‘roni cups than Price Street Pizza. You’re welcome.

International Beer and Pizza Day

Not quite Octoberfest, but if you choose to drink a cold one on October 9th, you might as well pair it with a slice or two…or three.

National Pasta Day

Although it’s not pizza specific, many local pizzerias offer pasta on their menu and I would highly recommend adding it as a pizza topping. In fact, my personal favorite pie is a penne al la vodka from Nino’s Pizza in Bay Ridge.
