Pizza vs. Pandemic
On March 21st Slice teamed up with non-profit Slice Out Hunger, and Pizza to the Polls to launch Pizza vs. Pandemic, a nationwide campaign to feed care workers and support local shops all at once.
In one month we raised $403k in donations from 5.6k donors, and delivered over 12.4k pies to 489 care centers!
How it works:
You make a donation
Your tax deductible contribution will be used to fund pizza orders where care workers need it the most.
We identify care centers in need
Using news reports and your suggestions, we look for the care workers in the greatest need. We then contact them to coordinate their order, including safety protocols.
We mobilize a local pizzeria to deliver
Slice finds a nearby independent pizzeria, ensures they can accommodate the care center’s needs, and places the order using contributed funds.
Thanks to social media, I’ve been able to share the donations being made to care centers across the country, as well as receiving messages of thanks from care workers on the frontline.
Since Pizza vs. Pandemic launched, it didn’t take long for press outlets to take notice. The campaign was featured on The Today Show, The New York Times, People, Thrillist, Delish, New York Post, Time Out, Fox News, CNBC, and BuzzFeed News to name a handful.
Even some big name brands such as The Pittsburgh Steelers, Planet Fitness, and Trivia HQ did their part for the cause and came through with generous donations.
